Wayland vs Xorg デベロッパーのコメント自分用まとめ（随時更新予定）

X.orgは死に行く運命とみなしているようだ。
Wayland and X.org are both part of freedesktop. Whatever maintenance is
still happening on X.org is mostly being done by people who primarily
work on Wayland. There isn't some kind of holy war going on between The
Wayland Developers who want to kill X.org, and The X.org Developers who
believe it is great and want to keep it. They're nearly all the same
people, and they all want X.org to die. AFAIK there isn't anybody who is
actually clamoring to do the work of maintaining X.org upstream. There
are people who don't want it to die because Wayland doesn't yet have the
features they need or the NVIDIA proprietary driver doesn't work well on
Wayland or whatever, but AFAIK, none of those people is actually
volunteering to maintain X.org long-term. If you look through
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/commits/master you will
see the majority of commits are from people who also work on Wayland
(and most of the commits are actually to Xwayland).WaylandとX.orgはどちらもfreedestopの一部だ。X.orgのメンテナンスはまだ行われているが、そのほとんどは、Waylandメインで活動している人たちによるものだ。
次の２者間で聖戦的な争いが起きているわけではない：X.orgを殺したいWaylandデベロッパーと、
X.orgは素晴らしいもので維持し続けたいと考えているX.orgデベロッパー。
彼らはほぼ同じ人たちで、そして皆X.orgに死んでほしいと思っている。自分の知る限りでは、「X.orgがアップストリームであり続けための仕事をしろ」と叫んで主張する人は誰もいない。X.orgが死んでほしくないと思っている人がいるのは、Waylandがまだ必要な機能を十分備えていないからとか、NVIDIAのプロプライエタリドライバがWaylandでうまく動かないからとか、そんな理由からだ。
だが、自分が知る限りでは、そういった人たちの中に、X.orgのメンテナンスを長期的に、自発的に行っている人は一人もいない。X.orgのリポジトリを見ると、大部分のコミットは、Waylandのメンテナと同じ人が行っていることがわかるだろう。（そしてほとんどのコミットはXwaylandへのものである）。

Apple siliconのmacでlinuxを動かすには、という前提からの発言。
It's all but unmaintained, broken in fundamental ways that cannot be fixed, unsuited to modern display hardware (like these machines), and we absolutely do not have the bandwidth to spend time on it.
We strive for a quality desktop on Apple Silicon machines, but we have to pick and choose our battles very carefully, because we can't single-handedly fix all the problems in the entire Linux desktop ecosystem. Yes, some Xorg things might work better on other platforms. That doesn't mean Xorg isn't broken, it means those platforms have spent years working around Xorg's failings. We don't have the time for that. Distributions and major desktop environments are already dropping Xorg support. It's pointless to try to support it well today on a new platform.
X.orgはメンテナンスされておらず、根本的なところが壊れていて修正できないし、モダンなディスプレイハードウェアに向かない（Apple Silicon macのような）、そして私達にはそこに費やせる時間がまったくない。
私達はApple Siliconマシン向けの高品質なデスクトップを求めている、しかしそのための戦いをどこに向けるかをとても慎重に選ばなければならない、なぜならLinuxのデスクトップエコシステム全体の問題は片手間では修復できないからだ。たしかに、Xorgの中には、他のプラットフォームで良く機能するものもあるかもしれない。しかし、それはXorgが壊れていないことを意味しない、それは、そのプラットフォームが数年を費やしてXorgの失敗への対応に取り組んできたことを意味する。私達にはそれをする時間がない。複数のディストロとメジャーなDEはすでにXorgのサポートを打ち切った。今、新しいプラットフォームでXorgをサポートしようとするのは不毛だ。

Edit: It has been pointed out to me that Wayland introduces significant regressions in accessibility for some users. ....
