Xilinx Kria AI スターターキット を動かしてみる!

はじめに

大手 FPGA ベンダーの Xilinx 社から Kria という低価格な SoM(System on Module
)が発売された。スモールサイズの基板の上に SoC( Zynqベース )、4 GB の DDR メモリ、16 GB の eMMC ストレージ、512 Mb QSPI Flash、TPM 2.0 チップ等、システムを動かすために必要な周辺部品が搭載されている。
スペック は ここ から確認できる。
Kria 本体のみではコネクタが特殊なため一般使用は難しいが、開発ボードと一緒になった KV260 Vision AI Starter Kit が同時に発売されており、これと組み合わせることで USB や HDMI、Camera コネクタや microSD 等、外部 IF と接続することができる。

ローからミドルぐらいの規模の FPGA が、周辺基板併せて 3-4 万円で買えるということで、FPGA の値段としては非常に安い(と思う)。
ので、勉強用として購入してみた。
電源など別売りだったため、ベーシックアクセサリキット も同時に購入した。

Getting Started 実行

KV260 には チュートリアル が用意されている。
短時間で基板を動かせるので、まずはこれを実施して動かしてみようと思う。

基本的にはチュートリアルに書いてあることをそのまま進めれば動かすことができる。
一点、ステップ 3. すべてを接続するの段階で Ethernet ケーブルも一緒に接続しないと、次のステップで ping が通らないので注意が必要。

カメラについて、私はベーシックアクセサリキットについてくる IAS カメラモジュールを接続した。
USB の Web カメラでも同様のことができるらしい。
こちらは接続する USB ポートが決まっているのと、ステップ5で実行するコマンドが変わるので注意。

ステップ5まで進めると、HDMIで接続したディスプレイにカメラの映像が映し出された。
カメラに自分の顔を移すと四角枠で検知されたので、ちゃんと動いていそうだ。

以下起動ログを張っておく。
起動時にいろいろセレクト画面が出てきたが、何も操作しないとデフォルトで起動する。
私はログイン画面が出るまで何も操作せずに、デフォルトで立ち上げた。

今も開発がすすめられていそうなので、パッケージ数はその時々によって変動するのかな。

感想

動かしてみた感じ、ファンの音は結構大きいと感じた。ノート PC を全力で回した時ぐらいの音がする。排熱は結構大きいのかな。
この規模の SoC がこの価格で買えるのは他に見ないため、このスターターキットはかなりお買い得だと思う。

ただ、自作回路をつなげられそうなポートが 2x6 の Pmod 1 つ(IO としては 8 本)しかないため、たくさんピンが欲しい人は自分で基板を作る必要が出てきそうだ。
これからいろいろ開発してみて、もっとIOがほしいとなったら、いろいろ検討してみようと思う。
