RSGT2025 Participation Report

に公開

I participated in RSGT2025, so I'm writing this participation report before I forget!
In the past, regarding Scrum Fest-style events, I've participated in Scrum Fest Sendai 2024 and Scrum Fest Kanagawa Autumn 2024 twice, but this was my first time at RSGT.

Memorable Sessions and Workshops

First, I'll list the sessions and workshops that left an impression on me.
I won't go into deep detail for each one because it would never end, so I'll write them down briefly.

Day 0

Refresh at Conferences! How to Enjoy Conferences Without Overdoing It

https://speakerdeck.com/kattsuuya/how-to-enjoy-conferences-without-stress

This session was very helpful because it came at a time when I had been participating in Scrum Fest-related events for a while and was starting to have various worries, such as not quite feeling like I fully belonged yet, even though I personally felt I was learning a lot and contributing back to my company (or so I thought).
Also, since RSGT is relatively expensive, I was worried about whether I could provide enough learning and return to the company to match the price, but this was a good session that helped resolve those anxieties.

A Gathering to Increase the Number of Friends to Enjoy RSGT Together

This was a great session where I was able to find friends to eat lunch with on Day 1. We did something called a "Press Conference Workshop," but I was a bit frustrated because I couldn't ask any good questions lol.

Day 1

The Best Product Engineering Org in the World

The presentation content was wonderful, but I have a strong memory of not being able to concentrate fully because there were many things other than the content that caught my attention lol.
The characters appearing in the slides were incredibly cute, the interpretation speed was insane, and I might have been a bit overwhelmed by it being my first RSGT lol.

In engineering, technical skills, output, and outcomes are often the main focus of evaluation, but mentality, culture, and leadership cultivation are also important elements, and I found it interesting to incorporate those into a ladder in detail.

Since it introduced things similar to what I've been wanting to work on lately, I was able to gain a little confidence.

Sprint Retrospective Deep Dive

This session was very timely for me as I was thinking about how to improve the inspection and adaptation cycles.
Specifically, the talk about which improvements to choose really resonated with me. We often tend to try things with low costs first, but the speaker emphasized that we should do what is most useful instead. It reminded me of the need to have such a strong will. While I still have questions about what an effective improvement action is and how to judge it, I intend to think more about this.

About FAST as an Option for Autonomous Scaling from an Engineering Manager's Perspective

https://speakerdeck.com/yoshikiiida/rsgt2025

This is a story about my company. I am currently challenging myself with FAST as an engineer. While this session was from an engineering manager's perspective, I might (or might not) have an opportunity to talk about it from an engineer's perspective someday.

Breaking out of "I'm a Scrum Master, but I don't feel like I'm doing it well"! To become a Scrum Master who can influence the team

https://speakerdeck.com/rakuraku0615/sukuramumasutasiteirukedo-shang-shou-kudekiteiruqi-gasinai-karanotuo-que-timuheying-xiang-woyu-erarerusukuramumasutaninarutameni

Although I don't have the title of Scrum Master, I want to improve the team from the bottom up as an engineer. And since I was exactly in a situation where I didn't feel like I was doing it well, this was another very timely session.

Listening to the content gave me many realizations, such as "That's true, it's good to think about it that way." I hope to be able to verbalize things—for instance, specifically identifying what isn't going well in areas where I previously only had a vague feeling. I want to train myself in this aspect!

Day 2

Maximizing Value Using a Digital Product Mindset

To be honest, I haven't quite digested all of this presentation yet, but it was very interesting content. First, I want to review the presentation and organize it in my mind. I felt like I want to do development that focuses on value rather than features.

The Concept of Meta-Framework for Creating Frameworks - From Adaptive to Generative -

https://speakerdeck.com/kyonmm/from-adaptive-to-generative

Initially, I came to listen because I was swayed by the mysterious words, "It's recommended to see it in person because there's a live performance (the sound won't come through on Zoom)," but it might have been the session that made me think the most. I felt that in order to improve the FAST framework we are currently challenging ourselves with, this exact mindset change from adaptive to generative might be necessary. I'm slow to understand and there are many parts I haven't been able to verbalize well yet... Also, the live performance was great (?)

Day 3

Dynamic Reteaming: Experience Reteaming Patterns and Forces!

On the final day, I participated in this workshop! I struggled to choose between this and OST until the end, but since FAST involves many opportunities for reteaming, I decided to participate thinking I could gain a lot from this workshop. In this workshop, I was able to experience what happens through reteaming and what kinds of patterns exist. It was an excellent workshop that made me realize once again that this is a topic I want to explore more deeply.

Keynote

I don't have the confidence to summarize this session well. For now, the opening greetings were just too good. I felt as if I had received a baton filled with the thoughts of those who came before us. I still have little knowledge about the agile community, but I was very happy to have the opportunity to hear from such a great individual.

Beyond the Sessions

While the sessions and workshops were great, I also had a sub-theme of "gathering" since I was there anyway! By the way, I had set a goal of reaching 500 followers on X, and I successfully achieved it! Thank you to everyone who gathered with me!

Coaches Clinic

Surprisingly, at RSGT, you can receive coaching from famous agile coaches and Scrum Masters for free. I took advantage of this and received some coaching myself.

Lunch

For lunch on Day 1, I ate with the group I was with on Day 0! The peace of mind knowing I had people to eat with on the first day—which I was most anxious about—was fantastic. I highly recommend that first-time participants join Day 0 and make lunch plans for Day 1.

The sponsor booth that left a particularly strong impression this time was Creationline's! They prepared a game called "Creation Quest" (apologies if I got the name wrong), and participating in it gave me a chance to talk to the speakers. For first-timers or those with less experience, approaching a speaker might feel like a high hurdle, but having the excuse of "it's for the quest" lowered that hurdle significantly!

Social Gatherings

This was the part I was most anxious about lol. Since my sub-theme was gathering, I was determined to participate, but because I don't drink and I'm shy, I was full of anxiety about what I would do if I missed the boat. Once things started, however, there were social gatherings recruited in advance on connpass and calls on Discord saying "anyone come!", so while there were some barriers to overcome, the environment made it very easy to join. Thanks to that, I didn't miss out on any of the three days and had a wonderful time.

Next...

For now, I'm thinking I want to participate in the Retrospective Conference and Scrum Fest Kanagawa! This year, I want to increase my participation in events, and above all, I want to create opportunities to submit proposals and speak. If we meet at some event, I look forward to seeing you again!

Finally

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who provided such a wonderful venue.

Thanks to the various systems and help available, I was able to have a very satisfying time even as a first-time attendee.

I was fortunate to have someone at my company whom I could ask, "I want to talk to so-and-so, so please come with me," and I gratefully made use of that support. However, I realize many people may not be in that position, so I hope to gradually become someone who can help facilitate "gathering" for others in a similar way!

PS. To everyone who received an acrylic keychain, please take good care of them! Have a safe trip!
