2023 in Review
It's 2024 now, so I'm going to look back on 2023.
Work
- It's been a full two years at my current job as of November.
- I'm still bad at setting goals even after two years. Well, I've struggled with goal management systems ever since they were introduced at my previous job about 30 years ago, so I suppose it can't be helped.
- Two years have passed, but Macs are still difficult to use.
- I didn't go to the office once in 2022, but I went 11 times in 2023. The main purpose was for drinking sessions.
- As a workspace, my home is more comfortable and productive, so there's really no point in going to the office for actual work.

Things I Bought
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
Purchased for 4,390 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/01/21. It arrived on 04/27.
Wait... I think I bought this but didn't finish it.
SodaStream Terra Starter Kit
Purchased for 15,400 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/02/18.
I used to buy carbonated water through Amazon Subscribe & Save, but I bought this because of the plastic bottle waste.
I'm glad I bought this. It's wonderful being able to make carbonated water at home.
I exchange the gas cylinders at a nearby Edion.
BT5.0 EX-G Series 5-Button Silent Mouse M Size M-XGM15BBSGM/EC
Purchased for 2,499 yen at Amazon on 2023/05/15.
I bought this because I dropped my previous mouse and the buttons started acting up. I've always used the M size of the EX-G series.
Ys X -NORDICS- 《Adol Christin》 Edition
Purchased for 10,890 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/05/26. It arrived on 09/28.
The game content was very good.
My child is using the body bag that came as a bonus with the Adol Edition.
QNAP NAS TS-433-4G
Purchased for 65,780 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/07/02.
I was using a TS-121, but I bought this because it reached EOL and I wanted a multi-drive model.
QNAP is great because the OS is Linux, allowing you to log in via ssh and tinker with various things with root privileges.
ELECOM Mobile Battery DE-C28-10000WF
Purchased for 3,910 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/08/20.
For my wife. The face is cute.
Truly Wireless Earbuds UZURA AG-UZURA-BLUEMOON
Purchased for 9,980 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/09/04.
For my child.
SanDisk SDXC Card 64GB SDSDUWC-064G-JN3IN
Purchased for 2,450 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/11/15.
For a video camera.
iPad Pro 12.9 Wi-Fi 256GB
Purchased for 188,800 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/12/24.
Apple Pencil (2nd generation) was also purchased at the same time for 17,880 yen.
For my wife. I helped with the setup, but it's hard to use... It seems Apple products aren't for me after all.
Truly Wireless Earbuds nearphones HA-NP50T-B
Purchased for 19,070 yen at Yodobashi on 2023/12/28.
I had been using the previous model, HA-NP35T, for work, but since a new one came out, I decided to give it a try.
Compared to the HA-NP35T, it's nice that both the case and the earbuds themselves are significantly smaller.
It's also good that you can now customize them through a smartphone app.
However, the fit isn't great. At first, they kept floating off my ears and felt unstable. Once you find the right position, they feel pretty good, so it might just be a matter of getting used to them.
The previous ones made my ears hurt if I wore them for a long time, but these haven't caused any pain so far.
