In this article, we look back on the objectives of the meetup and the sessions held on the day, and share the outcomes achieved through interaction and learning among engineers from different regions.

1. Event Overview and Objectives

Taking advantage of AWS re:Invent 2025, where engineers from around the world come together, NTT DATA organized an in-person meetup in Las Vegas. The objective of this event was to strengthen global connections by enabling engineers from different regions and organizations to interact directly and share their technical initiatives and learnings from re:Invent.

In addition to lightning talks by engineers from various countries, the event included a hero interview with young engineers who won the company’s Global JAM(※2), as well as a self-introduction session for all participants. By bringing together insights and inspiration gained at re:Invent and encouraging cross-border dialogue, the meetup aimed to deepen mutual understanding and enhance the overall engineer experience.

2. What We Did at the Event

2-1. Opening Session

At the beginning of the meetup, the purpose and positioning of the event were shared. Holding the meetup alongside AWS re:Invent made it possible for engineers dispersed across different regions of the NTT DATA Group to gather in one place and engage in face-to-face discussions that are rarely possible otherwise.

The agenda and session structure were also explained, emphasizing that the meetup was not a one-way learning session, but a place for active participation and mutual exchange.

2-2. AWS Community Builder Activities

Irene, an AWS Ambassador from NTT DATA Spain, introduced her activities as an AWS Community Builder. She shared initiatives from the AWS user community in Barcelona and explained how community activities serve as valuable opportunities for learning and growth among engineers.

Through technical information sharing and event organization, she highlighted the importance of strengthening not only individual skills but also the overall engineering capability of the local community. She also explained how these activities positively influence daily work and encourage engineers to take on new technical challenges.

2-3. AWS Ambassador Activities

Following the Community Builder session, Alejandro from NTT DATA Spain presented his activities as an AWS Ambassador. Drawing on his experience both as an Ambassador and as a member of the Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE), he explained how he contributes to technical initiatives and promotes knowledge sharing within the company and across the broader community.

He also presented examples of using AI tools to improve efficiency in his personal projects. By streamlining tasks such as blog content improvement and translation, he demonstrated how AI enables more consistent output and sustained information sharing.

2-4. MEKIKI Initiative and Generative AI PoC

Takashi from NTT DATA Group Headquarters presented the MEKIKI Initiative and a Proof of Concept related to Generative AI. The MEKIKI Initiative aims to identify, evaluate, and validate AI technologies that can be practically applied to real business and operational use cases.

Through PoC examples using Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore, he introduced key characteristics of agentic AI, implementation considerations, and operational challenges. The session further emphasized the importance of observability—particularly logging and tracing—and underscored the value of adopting a hands‑on approach when working with emerging technologies.

2-5. AWS Jam Winner Interview

In the latter part of the event, young engineers who achieved exceptional results in the NTT DATA Global AWS JAM participated in an interview session. Their strong desire to expand their perspectives and apply their re:Invent experience to future growth left a positive and lasting impression on attendees.

2-6. Self-Introduction Session

All participants took part in a self-introduction session, sharing their organizational roles, areas of responsibility, reasons for attending re:Invent, and technical interests. This provided an opportunity to better understand each other’s backgrounds.

As engineers from different countries, organizations, and experience levels exchanged perspectives, common interests and new insights emerged, laying the foundation for further dialogue and collaboration.

3. Why Global In-person Meetups Matter

GTMC is an initiative that connects engineers across countries and organizations within the NTT DATA Group. Precisely because of its global nature, opportunities for engineers to gather in person, engage in dialogue, and deepen mutual understanding play a critical role in sustaining and advancing the community.

This meetup, held during AWS re:Invent when engineers naturally converge from around the world, served as a practical example of how such connections can be fostered. In this chapter, we explore why global in-person meetups are essential and what challenges they aim to address.

3-1. Collaborating Across Borders in a 200,000-Engineer Organization

The NTT DATA Group is a large-scale global organization with approximately 200,000 employees worldwide. Enabling engineers to collaborate “in a meaningful way” across countries and regions requires more than shared platforms or organizational alignment.

Even within the same company, technical environments, market characteristics, project priorities, and local cultures vary significantly by region. Face-to-face dialogue helps bridge these gaps by providing context that is often difficult to convey through documents or online meetings alone. Building this foundation of mutual understanding is a prerequisite for effective global collaboration.

3-2. Time Zones and Geographic Distribution Increase Community Complexity

One of the persistent challenges in operating a global architect community like GTMC is managing time zone differences and geographic dispersion. Coordinating schedules across regions can increase operational overhead, while limited overlapping working hours may lead to fixed participation patterns within specific regions.

To mitigate these challenges, GTMC adopts a hybrid approach that combines regular online meetups with occasional in-person events. By creating opportunities that are accessible to engineers across regions, the community aims to sustain open communication and ongoing discussion despite geographic constraints.

3-3. Cultivating Relationships That Enable Sharing of Use Cases and Assets

Sharing use cases and technical assets among engineers is essential for building global IT capabilities. However, simply providing tools or platforms is not enough to ensure that sharing happens organically.

Effective knowledge sharing requires shared context, translation of value across regions, and relationships in which engineers feel comfortable asking questions and seeking advice. In-person conversations help establish trust and reduce psychological distance, creating the conditions necessary for sustainable knowledge exchange. This relationship-building process represents one of the most important challenges—and priorities—in community development.

3-4. Expanding Horizons for Young Engineers Through External Communities

GTMC also collaborates with external technology communities, such as AWS User Groups, to accelerate the growth of young engineers. By offering opportunities for lightning talks, presentations, and cross-community dialogue, the initiative encourages engineers to share their work beyond internal boundaries.

Experiences that require communication across different languages and regions enhance not only cloud‑related technical skills but also the broader capabilities expected of global engineers. Such opportunities help develop professionals who can effectively contribute and excel in international environments.

4. Outcomes

4-1. Strengthening Global Connections

The meetup created valuable opportunities for engineers who rarely interact across regions and organizations to connect face-to-face. Through sessions and self-introductions, participants gained insights into each other’s initiatives and interests, fostering relationships that go beyond simple introductions.

Sharing discussions in the context of a common re:Invent experience also enabled open conversations not only about technology, but also about careers and day-to-day challenges, establishing a foundation for ongoing communication.

4-2. Supporting the Growth of Young Engineers

Through the AWS JAM Winner interview and self-introduction sessions, young engineers were given opportunities to share their experiences and perspectives. Speaking in a global setting contributed not only to technical growth, but also to increased confidence and broader perspectives.

Providing such opportunities helped young engineers envision their next goals and enhanced motivation for continuous learning and growth.

4-3. Looking Ahead

By bringing together engineers from diverse regions, the meetup strengthened global collaboration, accelerated learning, and fostered new relationships.

NTT DATA will continue investing in global initiatives that empower engineers, enhance technical excellence, and support innovation across the organization.
