Chrome's New Split View (Tab Splitting) Feature

A new feature called Split View has been added to Chrome.

What is Split View?

This is a feature for splitting tabs left and right within a single window to display two pages simultaneously.

This feature was introduced experimentally starting around Chrome version 139 and became officially available in version 142 (released in late October to early November 2025).

By using it, you no longer need to switch between two tabs or open two windows and arrange them side-by-side.

• Opening related GitHub repositories at the same time
• Creating a document on one side while consulting generative AIs like Gemini or ChatGPT on the other

Personally, I feel this will be useful for tasks like code reviews.

How to use it

If the feature is enabled, you can use it simply by right-clicking a tab and selecting "Add tab to new split view" from the menu that appears.

If the menu item does not appear, please try one of the following methods.

1. Update Chrome to the latest version.

2. Enter the following into the address bar, switch it to "Enabled," and restart Chrome to use it.

chrome://flags/#side-by-side

chrome://flags is the settings screen for experimental Chrome features.
Changing these settings may affect the browser's behavior.
Since the Split View feature has already been released, this is only a temporary workaround.
